The 2021 Aspiring School Leaders Retreat

October 5-6, 2021 at the K Bar S Lodge in Keystone, SD

After two postponements due to COVID-19, the Aspiring School Leaders retreat will now be held in-person on October 5-6, 2021 at the K-Bar-S-Lodge near Keystone, SD.  Seats are being held for those applicants accepted for the 2020 program.  Please see the application process below as additional seats are now available.

All applicants must be nominated by a supervising administrator from their school district who recognizes the leadership potential they possess.  Applicants then complete a short application form (linked below) on which they list the name and contact information of their nominating administrator.  Applications for the October 2021 retreat are due September 1.  Applicants will be notified by September 8 regarding their acceptance into the program.

The purpose of the Aspiring School Leaders workshop is to provide participants with the opportunity to gain insight into the inner workings of the principalship and other school leadership positions. Participants will explore whether the leadership role is a good fit for them. Experienced school leaders will work with participants to help them understand the challenges and opportunities of school leadership.  A tentative agenda is included below.

The 2021 ASL Retreat is hosted by MAPLE, the Midwest Alliance for Professional Learning and Leadership, with sponsorship of three of its partners:  the South Dakota Department of Education (SDDOE), School Administrators of South Dakota (SASD), and Technology and Innovation in Education (TIE).  There is no registration fee for the retreat and meals are provided.  Each participant will also be provided their own hotel room at the lodge for the nights of October 4-5.  The retreat will conclude at Noon on October 6.  School districts are responsible for travel expenses to and from the retreat as well as any substitute teacher costs which are needed.
